Fox readying U.S. version of 'Torchwood'.

First off, well, reasons 1 - infinity, IT'S FOX!! And if FOX is not ready to have an omnisexual lead who's physically intimate with his objects of desire ONSCREEN.. then, yeah, I don't care if Russell T. Davies and the other TW PTB are involved. This can only lead to badness.

The only thing more horrifying was this little ditty: Tranter might try to reboot “Doctor Who” for U.S. audiences...

I need, like, a facepalm .gif or something.

Because that was such a success with the Eighth Doctor movie...?

I don't see the point of an American Torchwood. I mean, everyone interested already down--buys the official DVDs like good consumers. ~shifty eyes~ or watches it on BBCA. I just don't see the wisdom there. Why is Fox remaking a show we know they're going to cancel after a season or, at most, two? Or, bigger question, why are they trying to fix what isn't broken?

Because it'll be awesomely bad? Kinda like that rumor a while back about Michael Bay directing a Spider-Man reboot with Robert Pattinson as Peter Parker. The train wreck would be worth it for the pretty, pretty explosion.

A full season!?! Pfft! I'm betting it'll never make it to 13. Especially with FOX's record of yanking off shows.

Why can't people just watch the British versions? They're not hard to get and are almost always better than their American counterparts.

Also being made American: Skins (this makes me scared and very sad)

Also getting remade: Being Human!

Why can't people just watch the British versions?

What's really strange about this decision is TW *was* airing on American television! Most remakes of foreign shows are about money, because it's cheaper to actually remake the show, plus they'll own the rights, ie, make more money off it. Whereas airing the original is akin to leasing a property.

I just find it weird that they'd want to Americanize something that's already pretty well known (and liked AS IS) here.

The only exception to this rule I can think of is the American "Office." But the UK version was only, what, two short seasons? So the American version is filling a void. But otherwise? Yeah, in the age of DVDs and downloads, just leave things alone.

I feel the same way about when it goes the other way, like with Law & Order: UK. At least there it's a vastly different legal system and it's interesting to watch.

I haven't had a chance to watch it but the second season just started so I assume this means it's doing well?

I forgot Jamie Bamber was part of this. It's interesting to see where the BSG alums have landed.

Yeah, Katee Sackoff's on 24 now. And it's totally weird after years of kickass Starbuck to see her playing a character suffering from battered woman's syndrome.

I just wish Tricia Helfer would get her own damn series as opposed to all these damn bit parts on other shows!

I just want all the women of BSG to be on the same show and making out with each other. That's not too much to ask, is it?

Way to embarrass me for bringing it up! ~g~ I haven't watched any of it since the pilot, and I don't know of anyone watching it. So... um... maybe I'm just not in the right circles.

Hah! Looks like all of us slacked off on this, even with the incentive of Freema Ageyman thrown in. Even the brit accents and the pretty won't help in making the franchise interesting now.

Oh, that's going to be painfully bad. The American version of Queer As Folk was okay but that's because it was on a cable network. Being on Showtime, HBO, or something of that like is the only way an American Torchwood wouldn't get censored out the wazzoo.

Overall I'm not a fan of Americans doing their version of British tv shows/movies though. It usually ends in fandom tears and regret.

The weird thing is it's Davies who's going to be producing this! Like, was it really worth killing the UK version rather than hand the reigns over to someone else so he could work on a US version? Or maybe canceling TW was part of the deal, I don't know. But, why not an *original* show as opposed to an already well-established brand.. with deep ties to another well-established brand?

Oh, and LOL to your icon!

Lol, I know! And now I want to meet the *one* person in TW fandom (not named Russel T. Davies) who's all 'an American version of Torchwood? this is going to be SOO AWESOME!!'.

Stupidity and Fox seem to go hand in hand.

I know Torchwood is its own entity and it certain grew into a terrific show with 'Children of Earth' but its foundations were laid with Doctor Who, so I don't see how you can just remake it in a vacuum (not that I want them to remake Doctor Who, heaven forbid). I mean, how will they explain Jack's longevity? If they have a Jack (omni-sexual characters and American network TV aren't a natural combination). Torchwood - the institution - had a history tied up with the Doctor and if you remove that, you might as well just make Alien Killers R Us and be done with it.

...you might as well just make Alien Killers R Us and be done with it.

Which is the part that really puzzles me. Why not just ask Davies to create an *original* show rather than an already well-established one that also aired on US networks?

So they are remaking it with pretty much the same set of characters, instead of maybe a Torchwood US with new characters? However they set it up, it's going to be a censored bore. There's too much camp in Torchwood, and won't be as enjoyable without the adult content.

Strange as it sounds, I think FOX might be the *one* (major) network willing to air a show with a textually bisexual lead. That said, it's still FOX and I still think this is a horrible idea even with Barrowman onboard.

So they're porting over Barrowman over as well. That should be entertaining, especially when his off-screen attention whore antics gets splashed to middle america.
