Eons ago I mentioned something about being in a band. Well, I'm in a band. And they have a myspace page, which can be found here - Kissing Potion. I'm no longer the keyboardist, which is good because I suck. But I am the rhythm percussionist. Although I'm not listed on the band members section because I still don't have a conga set, which *really* sucks 'cuz those fuckers are expensive. Anyhoo, the first gig is on Oct. 12 at the Comet for any of you on my flist who might be in Seattle.

Kissing Potion

For those interested in 70's Funk here's the current set list:

Push & Pull - Rufus Thomas
Livin' for the City - Stevie Wonder
Your Thing Is A Drag - Sharon Jones
Rock Steady - Aretha Franklin
I Gotcha - Joe Tex
Think (About It) - Sharon Jones
You Haven't Done Nothin' - Stevie Wonder
The House That Jack Built - Aretha Franklin
Give It Up - James Brown
In The Basement - Etta James
How Do I - Sharon Jones
Higher Ground - Stevie Wonder

I'll upload the songs when I more time. Or get the congas.. or get over my crippling stage fright!

The other thing with me is the writer's block. I actually, I don't have writer's block because I'm totally writing at the moment - it's just not fan fic. I found out a friend of mine just completed a short film.. and totally didn't ask me for assistance. This motivated me enough to get back to my screenwriting. My goal is to finish the screenplay I'm working on now before NaNo starts up, then segueway straight into my next novel.

And on a completely random note - my brother called me last week. Now, my brother has *never* called me not once since I stopped living in my parents house. So when I heard his voice on my answering maching I totally started freaking out because I thought something had happened to my parents! Come to find out the jackass is thinking about moving to Seattle. Which is why I haven't called him back because I totally don't want him living with me while he searches for a job even though I totally know that's what's going to happen because, well, he's my brother. We share the same mother. And Mom gets us to do the things neither of us *ever* want to do!

Hey .. I just listened to the opening song on MySpace. You go, girl. Y'all rock. I really like the sound, though my knowledge of funk is patchy. But I remember you mentioning that it's the music you grew up on.

Wish I were a bit--actually, quite bit-- closer to Seattle! I'd definitely show up. That's some of my favorite music. *g*

Too bad there isn't really a House of Interns-- you could send your brother over there to live with Mere. Heh... or would that be too evil?

A screenplay and a novel? I feel like such a sloth. I'm hoping after I get settled down in New Orleans, I'll feel more creative and less scattered. I've got so much unfinished work-- short stories and a novel that needs a second draft-- I'm hoping that being in close proximity to William Faulkner's house will motivate me. As it stands now, I just stare at the words on the page and go all slack-jawed.

Have you had anything published? I'd love to read anything you've got!

I really like the song on myspace and the full instrumental sound. I don't know much about music but it seems that you don't hear that sort of thing much, if at all, any more. So good luck with your first gig.

And go write that screenplay - we'll need if for when I win the Eurolottery and set up the new film company *g*

I can't access the myspace page at work (damn Explorer keeps crashing) so I don't know if the demo on the page is with the full band playing or just the rhthym section. Either way, the folks playing are like intimidatingly good it's going to take everything I have not to like pass out when we get onstage, lol.

Heh, that's not evil enough!! But, come to find out he's now decided to move to Colorado. Which means he won't be moving at all. According to Mom, this is all just a passive-aggressive ploy to get back with the ex-girlfriend.

A screenplay and a novel?

The novel I wrote last year during Nano, which reminds me that I need to take it out, dust it off and start on the second draft. The screenplays are a bit older than that, I keep sitting on them instead of sending them out for sale due to my own insecurity issues. I don't have anything published again, due to my personal issues. I've been thinking about posting the Nano Novel online but I'm still muddying my way through the publishing online legal stuff. At the time, I was just happy the damn thing hit the 50,000 mark. Now I need to actually make it "good".

In the words of the Golden Wax Lion - I'm getting off my ass!

Hee, I'll consider it a good night if I don't vomit!

Yes, and when I win the lottery we can combine our powers of collective evil to create a lesbian network!! We can resurrect Niki & Nora, make Karen Sisco an actual lesbian and spin-off Chase and Krista.. then we'll get to work on the Stargate's!

Yeah, the online intellectual property rights thing really needs clarification!

Not to sound like a total moron, but... what's Nano?

Oh, good... glad he's going in the opposite direction. Your brother, I mean. Unless it is just a ploy. In any event, hopefully he'll stay out of your hair so you can keep entertaining us! Yes, I'm selfish. :)

God, I really am becoming a big old slash-ho!
Can't fight it, might as well enjoy it. *g*

Nano = National Novel Writing Month (http://www.nanowrimo.org/). Basically, you sign up and for the month of November spend it writing a 50,000 word novel. It's kinda funny since you don't actually win anything other than the sense of accomplishment in typing a 50k novel. But, it's a great motivator if you're looking for something to help you get back into writing.

I can't believe I've never read about it anywhere... but then, I've dropped my subscriptions to most of the litmags that were piling up, unread.
*g*

Thanks for the link!
