Let's just get this out the way, for those of you who have to download the episode - here's the Krista/Chase scene in full!

Krista, Chase and nothing but Krista's skin between them! 16megs

Now, onto my commentary. Most of this is verbatim of what I wrote over on [livejournal.com profile] fembuck's journal with some other thoughts thrown in.

Hunters, aka, the Ep Where Every One Else Is Dumber Than Blade

I have to say, as a Blade fan, that episode rocked. Blade was snarky, and proactive, and snarky, and asskicking, and did I mention snarky? But, once again, we have an episode where the villain gets laid and the hero is off playing with his giant, pointy sword.

As for the main storyline arc, next to Angels & Demons, weakest arc episode yet. And just shows how rushed TPTB probably were because it only works if everyone's collective IQ, except Blade, drops by about 100 points to work. So, let me get this straight, Blade is smart enough to figure out that he needs to make sure everyone on the plane died but Marcus is all '*snooty pout* I planted the bomb, of *course* they're dead! Hey Krista, wanna makeout *snooty pout*'!?! Some evil mastermind, jackass. At least Charlotte was smart enough to call the House and tell them of Marcus' plans. Sadly, no one's going to put two and two together by next week 'cuz the previews certainly show that Marcus' plan succeeds. And what the Hell happened to Glynis' two assistants? Bad plotting, PTB, bad plotting.

Plus, why the Hell didn't Charlotte just hide in a locker until sundown?

So, is it written in Jill Wagner's contract that she must be either a) in a shower, b) semi-nude or c) walk in slow-motion in the world's most boobtastic top? Not that I'm complaining or anything.

As for the Khase makeoutage, had the promo monkeys at Spiketv not aired that entirely *misleading* promo, it was the kind of scene I totally would have expected. Because, really, I love that Krista doesn't even try to get dressed first before having it out with Chase. And, once again, it's Chase who dresses her. But, after everything they've been through, to make it All About Marcus!?! Once again, bad plotting PTB, bad plotting. Even then, it's not so much bad plotting because the seeds have been planted since the pilot, it's just soo pedestrian. Like, all the avenues they could have taken with the Krista/Chase relationship and it boils down to 'jealous ex-girlfriend'!?! WTF!?!

I'd honestly hoped that they were still going to go the siblings/blood relations route, now, it appears I was wrong. I'm not afraid to admit that but, damn, making Chase the jealous girlfriend over the symetry/symbolism of a blood relative parallel to Krista and Zach. See that ball over there PTB? You seriously dropped it.

Although, I must admit, I did get a kick out of Marcus actually being evil this episode. If I were the architect, I'd fuck up the ventilation system out of spite - now wouldn't *that* be an unexpected surprise?

Dear Charlotte, thank you for killing Collins. He was boring and superfluous. Sorry about the dusting though. I was far more entertained by your actual evilness than Marcus the Country Club Conniver.

Why are we learning about this Conclave crap eleven episodes into the season? More importantly, why should I care?

As we get closer and closer to the finale, I've been semi-sorta patiently waiting to see if TPTB tied up all the loose ends they've been sprinkling about the season. It's not that this show isn't smarter than it should be, but as we reach the end, it still has a pounding square pegs into round holes feel to it. Marcus just isn't a good enough villain, let alone a pale imitation of Deacon Frost. I don't care how smart they tell me he is - his plan sucks!! Charlotte had no idea about the true purpose of Aurora so - he blows up her plane... then doesn't send a clean up team to make sure she's dead!?! Good grief. Which *should* send off all kinds of red flags to the Purebloods, especially after the deaths of Alex and Damek. But it won't. Why? Because Marcus is the villain and TPTB said so. So there.

I think I've touched on this before but in regards to the Krista/Marcus ship, it feels like they're using Chase and Charlotte as foils to make Marcus not look so bad. It's not that I'm against het ships, I'm just against ships thrown together for the sake of having textual heterosexual relationships. Krista has a damn good reason for keeping Marcus at arm's length. It's not that she's "undercover", it's that her entire plan seems to be along the lines of - get information for Blade and hope he helps her avenge her brother's death. There's no contingency plan. Nothing that says to me Krista is thinking of other options in case Blade fails. The last time Krista openly thought of killing Marcus was before he vamped her. Eleven episodes later, I'm honestly supposed to believe she has genuine feelings for the guy who destroyed her life!?! Hey, Mr. Bullshit, I'm totally calling you on it!

Admittedly, she did shake her head in the shower and snap out of it. But, seriously, I'm a bit tired of fanwanking her motivations based upon scraps of characterization.

Just in case it sounds like I'm starting to hate this show, I don't. The two hippie campers? Were listed in the credits as 'Crunchy Dude' and 'Crunchy Dudette'. Hee!

On an odder note, this is the first ep where I found Sticky hot. Not as hot as Shen and his Too Tight Wifebeater of Hotness.

So, in the end, good Blade episode, bad everything else.
