trancer21I don't talk about this show *nearly* as much as I should because anything I want to say usually comes out in 'Guh, that was good.' and 'Whoo doggy, Krista is HOT!'. So, I've finally gathered my thoughts enough to try and entice ya'll, my flist, into watching this show. And please, don't let the fact that it's on Spike stop you. Really, it's good. Even better, I bring picspam you can totally look at while at work!
This is Blade. He's pretty much the same as in the movies and the comics. He's mad, he's bad, he does Kung Fu while wearing leather! For now, we're just going to ignore his unfortunate stage name, Sticky Fingaz, because, well, because no one should have crappy adjectives as a nickname!
This is Blade's right hand man, Shen. He's human. He's more of a background, techy kinda role. In that he sits behind his computer feeding Blade information. He occasionally goes out into the field, but not often..or at least not often enough. But, that's okay because he brings the eye candy and when you're on a network notorious for bringing the T and A, a little man candy doesn't hurt, at all.
This is Krista (and totally my reason for watching). A newly returned Iraq war veteran who becomes embroiled in the vampire world when, while searching for her brother's murderer, she's vamped and now works undercover within the House of Chthon. She's strong, feisty, kicks ass and is totally hot to boot! Plus, she has the 'dead brother angst' that makes you wanna hug her, and love her, and do pleasurably unmentionable things to her when no one's looking.
This picture was taken, I'm assuming, before principal photography began. Because, while Krista's wardrobe consists of lingerie, evening gowns and (my personal favorite) Urban War street gear, she rarely dresses like a street hooker! So please, if you've seen this pic before and think of it as the epitome of the character, just disregard and look at this pretty pic instead!
This is Marcus. He's the head honcho at the House of Chthon. A scheming Machiavellian type, who's plans include producing a serem that will make vampires impervious to all the things that can kill them. I'm not particularly impressed with Marcus and am praying for his imminent death. But, watching him get smacked around by Charlotte is always fun!
This is Chase. She's Marcus' right hand woman. She's a vamp. She loves death, destruction and looking good while doing it. She's in love with Marcus. Well, okay, not really because she totally wants to bang Krista. So let's just pretend she's in love with Marcus.
Why you should be watching.
For starters, this show is good. And I mean that, good as in, 'ooh, I can't wait until Wednesday for the new ep of Blade'. It's executive produced by David Goyer, who's not only a comics writer, but wrote the screenplays for Blade II, Blade Trinity, CBS's Threshold, Dark City and Batman Returns.
Why you should *really* be watching:
Well, it's all about the Chase/Krista ship. The PTB have set up a standard Chase/Krista/Marcus triangle, they hadn't fallen on the usual stereotypes and tropes. Chase and Kirsta relationship is as more teacher/pupil than rivals. While there is jealousy on Chase's part in regards to Krista's relationship with Marcus, she's more jealous of Krista's 'status' than Krista herself, ie, Chase likes being the center of attention regardless of when or where.
In episode 4, Krista and Chase go to the House of Leichen, where Krista must perform a blood bath ritual to find her brother's killer. The look of concern on Chase's face as Krista goes under is just..awww. Chase loves her Krista.
In episode 7, Chase is brought back severely injured to the House of Chthon. When Marcus orders Krista to go to Berlin, he has to practically threaten her to get Krista to move.
There's a spark/subtext that just leaps off the screen whenever these two are together. I'm not sure if it's intentional or not but, dammit, if there isn't some lesbian *something* between these two I'm going to be seriously disappointed in the network 'For Men'!
I'll try and find some Chase/Krista screencaps later. But, this is the basics and now you have no excuse NOT to watch. Unless, of course, you think it's crappy and I have terrible taste in television. Which is okay too because there's still the shallow viewing. And chicks with guns kicking ass is just fine with me!
