I’m not gonna even pretend I know fuck all about basketball, because I don’t. So, this’ll be more about my experience at the game than the game itself.

WNBA: Seattle vs. LA

First off, I am now officially a Seattle Storm Season Ticket holder! w0ot!! Which is great because now I don’t have to worry about scrummaging for change to make the games. And, not having to worry about having money for tickets is great because I am now officially broke. It’s gonna be a long ass couple weeks ‘til payday. The best part is, judging by this year’s schedule, I’ll be able to make all the games. Yay!

Half-Time: So, like, there were these two gymnasts or something and all I could think was ‘man, someone at the WNBA offices was like ‘you know, women’s basketball just isn’t *gay* enough. I know, let’s have two people, dressed in baby powder blue spandex jumping rope and juggling inflated balls for halftime. Yep, that should do the trick’.

I’m liking the new rules with the four quarters instead of just two halves. Don’t know why the quarters are still shorter than the men’s game, but, it’s a start. Also liking the new :24 second clock, it’s definitely picked up the pace on plays. Though looks like the players still need to get used to it.

If there’s one thing I can NOT stand about basketball, it’s the rules regarding when people can leave their seat. I’m used to hockey, where the rules are - if the puck’s in play, you don’t walk the aisles. Not so in basketball, apparently. So, you spend the game craning your neck around people getting out of their seats CONSTANTLY. And it’s annoying as fuck. Like, dude, if you wanted some goddamned nachos, maybe your ass should have been here BEFORE the game.

Speaking of nachos, I'm not sure whether it was that or something else, but *something* from the concession stand smelled totally gross. And people all around me seemed to be eating it by the ton because I smelled that crap all night long!!

Having Seattle play LA was a great way to start the season. The game was physical, REALLY physical. Then, Izi went down, *really* went down. And The Diva, showing what a classless bitch she truly is, went for a shot while there was a player *unconscious* in the paint. Even her own teammates had stopped playing and there’s LL charging down the court, by herself, towards an injured person on the floor and going for a basket.

Of course, 10 minutes later, Lauren knocked the Diva on her ass and I totally missed it!! And, I mean, Lauren knocked her so hard you could actually *feel* it! Those two are a Hate!Sex! rps waiting to happen. And, no, it won’t be me that writes it! I’m already holding back from writing Lauren/Izi/Sue OT3 slash!

In the end, it was a great way to start the season. And, by the looks of it, we really have a great team this year. Hate to sound cocky, but if things keep improving, we’re totally Playoffs bound!

so cool to see another WNBA fan around

I follow the Connecticut Sun mostly, but make sure I keep up to date with all the teams that have UCONN alums in the ranks so Seattle, NY, Pheonix, Detroit, MN are also in my sights.

Not too much for the RPS but to each their own.

Heh, you don't have to worry, there won't be any Storm slash coming from me.

I don't follow too many other teams, and the ones I do are because former Storm players are in them, ie, Indiana and Phoenix. But, then that gets me started on the stupid salary cap and the seriously low pay rate!

I just love basketball - also watch men's NCAAs (not the NBA - hate that league) - had little choice growing up. Basketball was the only sport mom really liked (and neither my brother or I played, go figure) and then I went to UCONN, granted before either team did much of anything. I remember in 1990 - the men won the NIT, you would have thought the university just won... the NCAAs.

Anyway, until the league runs for more than 4 months, I don't see salaries changing all that much. Plus they just need better attendence - granted you are doing all you can with season tickets. I wish there was a team near me, but alas, Little Rock is not known for it's love of pro sports.
