trancer21Someone please tell me I'm not the only one watching this show? I can't help it, I'm totally addicted. It's my Sunday Night TV Xanax!! It's like the lawyer version of Psych. Of course, none of that is gonna stop me from bitching about last night's episode because..
I was happy about 'the Return of Fred' for about, oh, five seconds until I realized that, yes, TPTB *would* be continuing the 'isn't Fred the Stalker cute?' storyline. Because, no, Fred stalking Stacy *isn't* cute, or funny.. and having Deb/Jane commenting to Fred in a previous episode that he is, indeed, stalking Stacy doesn't make the storyline any better.
Had the storyline been a commentary on the crappy love/relationship advice given in magazines, I might have given it a pass. Except, you know, Fred following the crappy love/relationship advice that amounted to stalking WORKED the first time around. I guess part of what bugs is that the storyline is All About Fred - how much Fred loves Stacy, how Fred is going to make Stacy love him. And *none* of it is about Stacy. That and I hate 'I love you, therefore anything I do to make you love me is okay' story lines. Because, you know dude, sometimes she really *is* just not that into you!
Plus, while I was happy (for about five seconds) at Fred's return, I have to admit I didn't miss him *that* much when he was gone. Because, quite frankly, the character had become a bit superfluous. And I don't necessarily think Fred 2.0 is a good thing. We already have *one* character getting a second lease on life, does the show really need two?
I'll also cop to a bit of 'fangirl over-investment' because, great googly-moogly, I ship Deb(Jane)/Stacy SOO HARD!! (I also ship Teri/Kim and when I get my 'writer-fu' back I'm totally writing a story about the two of them having drunken hate!sex in the janitor's closet during the last company Christmas party!) Anyway, Stacy's like a big slobbering puppy around Jane and Jane's speech last night about Stacy looking outside her comfort zone and trying something new? I was all 'for GOD'S SAKE just KISS HER ALREADY!!'.
Though, technically, I do like Grayson, I also like the current storyline of Deb/Grayson moving on with their lives and finding someone new.. like Jane finding out Stacy is her true soulmate! I mean, sure Grayson loved Deb but I don't think the PTB have done a good job as to 'why'. Deb has kinda shown her past self to be a bit self-absorbed, vain and vapid. Which begs the question as to what exactly was it that Grayson saw in her aside from a hot blonde.
I also kinda have to ignore the creepy subtext that Jane's better off dead as opposed to Deb getting a second chance at life. But, hopefully, there'll be a future storyline where Jane comes back in Deb's body.. or something since Deb's body is kinda six feet under.
I also hope, now that the show's been picked up for a second season, TPTB tone down the 'cavalcade' of guest stars. This season is starting to look like a lawyer version of The Love Boat!
