You're not the only one recording the old-fashioned way. My poor little vcr hasn't gotten a work-out like this in years. But thank god for the HQ downloads being made available at the Big Purple Dreams board. Those are a thing of beauty on my screen.

At this rate, I'm not sure that we'll all survive a real kiss. But what a way to go!

Ha! Yeah, I think I may have squealed during the almost kiss. And I was *really* glad that it was Natalia that initiated it this time. I may have even gotten a bit misty-eyed when she was praying in the church.

I guess after ten years of being jerked around by All My Children, I'm just giggly-happy at how.. committed Guiding Light is to doing this right!

Heh .. isn't that a breath of fresh air after plowing through the Hollows? I was about ready to burst out yelling at Olivia for bringing on Teh Stooopit this time around. Here we thought that Natalia was the holdout, but she's been sending out louder and louder signals every time. I was literally yelling at my TV for Olivia to stop being so chickenshit. I got some funny looks from Scully for that. It's going to be so hard waiting for the big payoff. But I guess I can be patient and enjoy the prolonged angst. As long as they follow through on the payoff.

Lol, I think I've finally exhausted myself ranting about the Hollows. Because if you remove the Rachel/Ivy fuckwittery it's a really good series. It's just.. that fuckwittery is like a fly on your filet mignon. No matter how good that steak is.. the fly has ruined everything!

Anywhoo, back to Guiding Light. Gah! I wanted to smack and *hug* them both today! But I really liked today's episode because we got to see more of Natalia's struggle and, God, the *looks* she was throwing Olivia's way!!

Then there's Olivia. I was all 'ooh gurl, when your crush tries to kiss you? YOU LET HER!! Especially if she thinks you're unconscious'! BAD GAY PANIC MOMENT!! Bad, bad, BAD!

I wanted to rewatch today's scenes again. But I deleted my recording because I thought it would be up online. by now. Gah! Those were some serious looks Natalia was throwing at her. Plus the scenes from yesterday about the photo. The girl's practically handing her heart out to Olivia, and the gay panic is just too much suckage! Funny though, for all of Olivia's big talk, it's Natalia who seems to have reconciled herself and her faith to being in love with a woman. I think that's a great turnabout.

Shhh... the only times I've ever cheated on ABC soaps has been with Guiding Light. So, it's been great to come back to it and still know so many familiar faces. (The last time I was into GL, I was all about Blake/Ross... when Blake was being played by Sherry Stringfield.) The Otalia slow-burn is old-school supercouple done so well.

I didn't even bother with Breeze. (I can't believe I've succumbed to all this name smushing. In the good ol' days we just called 'em "Luke & Laura"... no smushing necessary.) AMC lost me on that front a long time ago. They'll just never get it right. (Zarf!) Sucktastic writing aside though, I've always felt that the inherent problem in any Bianca romantic storyline inevitably comes back to this... Kendall. Bianca has always had more chemistry with her sister than with any of her girlfriends. Bad writing + Kinks = Doom!

It was good for like a month, then quickly went to Hell in a handbasket. And, honestly, one look at the contracts Riegel and Braun signed showed this story wasn't going to end well.

God, I fucking *loathe* the name smushing. Yeah, sure, every now and then there's a good one. But the majority of the time? It comes across as clique-ishly twee or, worse, trying way too hard to be clever and failing miserably. Jindy (Jill/Cindy) rates an 8 on my cringe-o-meter!

I must admit that I've always found Kinks to be irresistible. I don't know if they've still got 'it'... but I can't imagine anyone else packing the same awww/angsty punches that they used to.

Many thanks for the fic tip. I've heard only good things about dreiser's work... throw in some Kinks and now I'll really have to give it a look-see.

I think "Otalia" gets a pass because we're all so caught up in it. One can not be held responsible for embracing a moniker while under the influence of smoldering daytime lovin'.

I refuse to acknowledge most of the pairing portmanteaus though. No one would dare smush Xena & Gabrielle's names together. Or Barbara & Helena's. Just as it should be.

'Kinks' is probably my all time favorite. It says it all.

'Kinks' is the name given to the unfortunate mega-watt chemistry between AMC sisters Kendall and Bianca. Bianca's nickname was always Binks. So, Kendall + Binks = Kinks. An appropriate moniker for such an inappropriate twosome. They're not shipped seriously, well, at least I don't think they are. More just for fun. But their chemistry on-screen does tend to eclipse their significant others.

It's my favorite name-smushing example. So wrong yet so awesome. *g*
